We get by with a little help from our friends

Jones and Nickerson take Stuart Sailfish Regatta full throttle

 — Lindsay Nickerson, of Nickerson and Company, an event management, public relations and marketing company and Beverly Bevis Jones of BB Jones Communications, a public relations, marketing company and web design business, have teamed up to take the Stuart Sailfish Regatta full speed ahead.
The second annual Stuart Sailfish Regatta will take place on the Stuart Causeway April 19, 20 and 21. “Our first year was tough, no doubt about it. But everything we learned will make this year a great event for racers and the public," Nickerson said. Her event experience includes the Port Salerno Seafood Festival, Young Professionals of Martin County leadership and events, Arts Fest and the Owl’s Howl Ghoula to name a few.
Jones’s public relations event experience includes the Stuart Air Show, Celebrities for Kids Golf Tournaments, Soroptimist Christmas Parade and the Lyric’s Beach Boys Anniversary Gala and Show and more.
The Stuart Sailfish Regatta is open to 10 classes of inboards, four classes of outboards and new this year, the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Series. Some of the nation's top tier racers plus a power team of six or more Canadian Grand Prix race boats will bring even more fuel and adrenaline pumping action to the water.
The Stuart Sailfish Regatta is a non-profit organization and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Maritime and Classic Boat Museum, the Children’s Museum and the US Sailing Center, all located in Jensen Beach. For more information, visit www.stuartsailfishregatta.org or call 772-245-7654.

Only 65 days left!

19 February 2013

Just a few weeks away until the Stuart Sailfish Regatta in WARM sunny South Florida. Mike Grendell reports everything is a go and the committee is sending in their sanction next week. It still looks like if we can get the 77 redone and out of the shop, and the Kennedys get their boat finished, we’ll have at least 6 GPs in attendance. Mike also reports several H-350 boats are going down to get some testing time in. Should be a great race and show for the early springtime. As reported earlier, Martin Rochon will be driving the GP-77 Coppertone boat. This should be a great young team getting into our GP family and also they bring the first major sponsor to our sport in some time, that we can all build on. Yours truly will be building their motors and the boat is now at Jamie Auld’s shop where the motor will be reversed and the boat will be going to a direct drive instead of a gearbox unit. This should prove to be interesting as this will be the first Bergeron GP boat to be running direct drive. In round numbers they say this conversion should save 100 pounds and about 90 to 100 horsepower not running through a gearbox. Speaking of the Bergeron GP boats, in my last newsletter, I forgot to mention that Pierre Maheu won 8 GP finals in his Bergeron hull. Sorry Pierre, I didn’t mean to forget you. Remember, I’m getting’ older these days! Also, speaking of Pierre, there’s a little rumor going around that he “might” be driving a GP boat in Valleyfield. Now remember, that’s a “little” rumor at this time.  Included in this newsletter are the first pictures of the GP-77 Coppertone’s new fifth wheel race boat trailer. This trailer features a 24 foot live-in/work station area with a 14 foot slide out with all the features of a small motorhome. As you can see there’s lots of storage space and large work area under the boat cradle. The Coppertone crew will be working overtime to get their boat ready to run down in Florida.
The new GP driver’s committee has been elected with Ken Brodie Jr., Bert Henderson, George Kennedy, Marc Theoret, and Marty Wolfe as their chairman. They’re going to have their work cut out for them with two new rookies this year and two left over from last year although the last two from 2012 are off restriction but nevertheless are still being watched as new drivers.
I also hear that Tom Pakradooni’s new Bergeron hull could be ready to test in April at the race in Stuart. Our ACHA GP family keeps growing every year and getting more competitive.
Until next time “Think Spring”

Stuart Sailfish Regatta on Course for Second Year

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 6, 2013 - The second annual Stuart Sailfish Regatta will be making waves off of the Stuart Causeway April 19, 20 and 21.  Get ready for an exciting weekend with hydroplanes, race boats and powerboats competing for prize money and bragging rights.   Organizers are planning a weekend of speed, excitement and community involvement. With increased attendance and sponsorship support, SSR plans to increase their support to the designated charities, Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast, US Sailing Center and the Maritime and Classic Boat Museum..

The races will once again be held on the Stuart Causeway on a 1.1-mile oval racecourse on the northern side of the bridge. After last year’s test run, the Regatta Board of Directors is happy to announce that they will close the Stuart Causeway with the approval of Sewalls Point town officials and all other related agencies. The new expanded site will allow for more vendors and activities, including live music, a bikini contest and the best spectator viewing area on top of the bridge.   Visitors can expect a new and improved layout overall and additional food, beverage and customer services. The race is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association.  The regatta will be open to ten classes of inboards, four classes of outboards and new this year, the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Series. Some of the nation's top tier racers plus a power team of six or more Canadian Grand Prix race boats will bring even more fuel and adrenaline pumping action to the water.

Hutchinson Island Marriott Beach Resort and Marina is the official race resort and will be the main hub of activity in the days leading up to and during the race. The website lists all area accommodations, many of which will be offering special race promotions and packages.

The advance ticket price is $10 until April 5.  Beginning April 6 tickets will also be available at all branches of Seacoast from Palm Beach to Vero Beach for $12 with other outlets to be confirmed.
